Creepy Carousel Cat
While we were visiting Seaside, OR last weekend we spent some time in the tourist area and hung out by the carousel. I was taking pictures of the carousel, friends, and family with no particular goal in mind. My daughter, who was also shooting the carousel challenged me to take a creepy* photo. I think her exact words were something close to, “Dad, we’re hanging out here doing nothing, why don’t we see if we can take some creepy* pictures of these animals?” It got me to thinking and gave me an objective rather than just shooting random stuff. Once I had that I came away with several much more interesting shots than I would have otherwise. It pays to have a vision and direction rather then shoot randomly hoping to get ‘something’.
I didn’t want to over-do the post processing or actually edit (paint on the photo) to make it sick or gross – I just wanted to process it to give it a more ‘creepy’* feel. What do you think? Is it creepy? Maybe when my daughter finishes her ‘creepy carousel’ photo I’ll invite her to guest post here.
*Note: By ‘creepy’, I think my daughter meant ‘unexpected’ or ‘strange’. After all, there are some unexpected animals on this carousel and there were babies, 1 – 5 year olds, and yes, teen-age girls riding it. So, I’m pretty sure she meant “let’s make the merry-go-round look unexpected – after all, it’s a ride for little kids”.
