Maui
We went to Maui last October – I know I’m slow getting this out – if you don’t like it, write to me. Rather then produce a long post that I don’t want to take the time to write and you don’t want to read, I’m just going to post a few pictures with a few sentences and leave it at that.
I know – I’ve been on an infrared kick recently – here’s the view off our lanai the first morning we were there.

We went snorkeling here in Honolua Bay. Fantastic views of tropical fish, sea turtles, reefs, etc.. it was very relaxing. Extremely clear water.

During our day drive around the North side of the West half of Maui we stopped at Nakalele Point and hiked out to the Nakalele Blowhole. You can see it from the road (and apparently most people take pictures from there and get back in their car and continue on – at least from the pictures I’ve seen that’s what I think happens.) It’s a very rugged 1/2 mile hike out there, but well worth the effort. Oh, and then, of course, there is the exhausting 1/2 mile trek back up to the parking lot – and it is up.

Here is a photo of the small crater where the blow hole is. I shot this because I liked the rock formations and color more then I liked the view with ocean water spurting up.

I found the rock formations and colors out on the point wonderful and fascinating. Of course having hauled 50lbs of camera gear on my back out to the point gave me a chance to rest while I contemplated and shot photos.

And an infrared photo of the blow hole in action.

One day we got up early and spent the whole day on the road to Hana (and back). Here is a photo of Wailua Falls on the Southeast side of the island.

And, of course, it wouldn’t be a post about Hawaii with out at least one picture of the hula girls :-) I will say – pretty happy with the camera. This photo was taken about 8:30pm with just the ambient light from the show (no flash). ISO 1600, 1/200 sec at f/2.8 70mm. Colors are good, I didn’t do any processing or noise removal at all – I just think those coconuts just can’t be comfortable.
